Al Gore was out pimping his new book on Conan the other night, when the subject Geothermal Energy came up. After Conan said drilling holes to the center of the earth sounded a little Lex Luther like. Al said that the earth's core is "several million degrees".
The interior of the earth is hot, between 5000 - 9000 degrees Celsius, but not "several million degrees." The surface of the Sun is only estimated to be 6000º C.
Conan: Now, what about ... you talk in the book about geothermal energy ...
Al: Yeah, yeah.Conan: and that is, as I understand it, using the heat that's generated from the core of the earth ...
Al: Yeah.
Conan: ... to create energy, and it sounds to me like an evil plan by Lex Luthor to defeat Superman. Can you, can you tell me, is this a viable solution, geothermal energy?
Al: It definitely is, and it's a relatively new one. People think about geothermal energy -- when they think about it at all -- in terms of the hot water bubbling up in some places, but two kilometers or so down in most places there are these incredibly hot rocks, 'cause the interior of the earth is extremely hot, several million degrees, and the crust of the earth is hot ...
So why is this guy the climate expert? Al thinks its OK to drill millions of wholes deep into the earth's core but its not OK to use incandescent light bulbs.

I get it. He won the Nobel Prize for making stuff up.
Somebody said once; "never interfere with your enemy while they are in the process of self destruction"............Michael Moore must be standing atop the Golden Gate by now..

Al, you say Global Warming (even though it is cooling for the last ten years) is CAUSED BY MAN. Ok everybody, remember this fine point. Now, from Al's own big mouth on Conan's show...."but two kilometers or so down in most places there are these incredibly hot rocks, 'cause the interior of the earth is extremely hot, several million degrees, and the crust of the earth is hot ..." Repeat...."the crust of the earth is hot." The crust of the earth, where WE live, is hot....because the interior of the planet is hot. Apparently though the layer just above the crust, the atmosphere, it is getting hotter just because of us. According to Al the laws of thermodynamics stops at the topsoil. Ahhhh.....can anyone say DISCONNECT???? Oh, Al you are so smart. The earth's interior is MILLIONS of degrees.....errrr.....where's my silly graphs???
Al Gore also says that "they" have figured how to make drill bits that do not melt in that heat.
Wow. A science as well as technology lesson in just a few minutes. Al Gore is worth every penny he earns.
Who's the flat earther now?
Oh, c'mon, guys; obviously Al meant degrees Fahrenheit, not Celsius, right? That makes a big difference, right?
...Sorry, Mr. Gore. That's the best I got right now.

It's stupid mistake for Al Gore to make. What's even more stupid is that he fails to recognize the SOURCE of that heat. The heat in the interior of the earth is NUCLEAR ENERGY. Anywhere from 50 to 90 percent of it (no one is entirely sure) comes from the radioactive breakdown of uranium, thorium and potassium. That's why I called my book about global warming and nuclear power "Terrestrial Energy." (www.terrestrialenergy.org). It makes a little bit of sense to tap this heat by drilling deep into the ground. What makes much more sense, however, is to take the source of that heat - the uranium - bring it to the surface, put it in a controlled environment, accelerate the breakdown a little and use the resulting heat to generate electricity. That's what we do in a "nuclear reactor." If Gore and the environmental movement would end their opposition to nuclear power, we could buy some insurance against global warming without ruining the economy in the process.
Even with the conversion to degrees Fahrenheit, you're only talking about a little over 10,000 degrees ... not millions. Good try, Casey (I know your comment was tongue in cheek ...)
hey First Sorry if I used an arabic name Because it is already used from the first time in all English and non English sites and Intimately, the article is really the sweetest on this notable topic. I agree with your conclusions and will eagerly look forward to your incoming updates. Saying thanks will not just be adequate, for the extraordinary clarity in your writing. I will instantly grab your rss feed to stay informed of any updates. Solid work and much success in your business enterprise!
Mr. (I invented the internet) has really found his niche to continue hosing the populace so he'll never again have to get a real job. If he truly believed in global warming then he wouldn't be one of its biggest consumers ref: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/g/gore-bush-houses.htm Wake up people. You want to support a cause, look for someone who leads by example, not someone who leads with one hand in your wallet.
Although Al's complete lack of scientific knowledge is showing once again; the idea isn't bad. It comes out of MIT which is possibly the best science and engineering university in the World. The plan isn't to dig into the mantle but to "hot rock" where the temperature is in the hundreds of degrees, create steam using it to turn electrical turbines. The effect this would have on the Earth itself is far less than you spitting in a steel foundry the size of which would be all the steel foundries on the planet combined. Just because Al is a complete idiot don't dismiss it unecessarily. For one thing the idea isn't his.
Hi there, I found your blog via Google while searching for something else but your post / blog looks very interesting for me.
It's nice to see this place is finally getting the attention that it totally deserves Keep up the excellent work.
Some good information! Appreciated. Thanks and greetings from Las Vegas!
How did this idiot get picked to be vice president and why should we believe him about AGW? A ten year old should know better than making THAT statement!
It looks like major media is protecting Al Gore - they blocked access (copy right infringement) to his retarded rant where he said just a couple of kilometers down the earth was millions of degrees.
hey there , thanks alot for that ..your posts are perfect XD , can you please put some videos for this
Great post, I really enjoy your blog, I will be stopping by again soon.
Any tips on subscribing to your RSS feed with the Google Chrome browser?.. i keep getting errors on it.
