2012 - It's Not About Global Warming

I will even go so far to say that it had a Christian Worldview.

Which might surprise readers who saw the movie, because there's a scene where a million people in St. Peter Square are praying for protection only to get crushed by a collapsing St. Peter's Cathedral. But, the few people that survive are saved by (SPOILER ALERT) going an several hi-tech arcs, along with 2 of every kind of animal.

I also think that 2012 has a young earth message, because it shows how the earth can dramatically change from a natural disaster in a very short period of time, as opposed to gradual shifting over millions of years.

Which brings me to a pet peeve of mine the whole Pangea theory.

In Al Gore's movie an "Inconvenient Truth", which is actually a "Convenient Lie" put out by Al to fatten his wallet, he speaks of Pangea. In the movie he talks about his friend in 5th grade who looked at a map of the world and asked "do these things fit together?" and he brings up the Pangea theory. The theory states that all the continents were once connected and slowly over millions of years drifted apart. Al's friend was quickly put in his place by the teacher who said that was ridiculous theory. Well Al's friend should have listened to his teacher.

Later in the movie Al reprises his 5th grade friends question when he shows the CO2 ice core record and the temperature record, which seem to correspond and says "did they ever fit together?". He than says that the relationship is complicated, but yes there is a correlation between CO2 and temperature.

Well, Al is right there is a correlation, but its not that complicated, CO2 follows temperature, meaning CO2 is the effect of temperature variation not the cause. This is more complicated than Al's threshold of scientific proof which is them "fitting together."

When I was in 5th grade I too looked at the map of the world and thought it curious how the continents seemed to fit together. But by the 6th grade had pretty much ruled out that theory as just a visual coincidence.

So the question is, to believe in Global Warming, do you also have to believe that all land was once connected? It almost sounds like a flat earth theory.
