UN IPCC Scientist Richard Courtney, a UN IPCC expert reviewer and a UK based atmospheric science consultant, is featured on page 224 of the U.S. Senate Report of More Than 700 Dissenting Scientists Over Man-Made Global Warming. Below is a guest essay by Courtney.

Certainty and Not Doubt - By Richard Courtney

I have certainty and not doubt.

I am certain that constraining the use of fossil fuels would kill billions of people. Holding the use of fossil fuels at its present level would kill at least 2 billion people, mostly children. And reducing the use of fossil fuels below present levels would kill more millions, possibly billions.

That is not an opinion. It is not a prediction. It is not a projection. It is a certain and undeniable fact, and I explain it as follows.

Russian research forecasts global cooling

I091027habibulloabdussamatov.jpgn a sharp rebuke to climate alarmists who believe human-generated carbon dioxide is responsible for causing catastrophic global warming, a Russian scientist has issued what amounts to a news flash announcing, "Sun Heats Earth!"

Habibullo Abdussamatov, the head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, has published a paper in which he tracks sunspot activity going back to the 19th century to argue that total sun irradiance, or TSI, is the primary factor responsible for causing climate variations on Earth, not carbon dioxide.

Moreover, Abdussamatov's analysis of sun activity data has led him to conclude that the Earth is entering a prolonged cooling phase because sunspot activity is currently in a phase regarded as a "minimum."

Minnesotans For Global Warming is now a part of the Minnesota based No Cap And Trade Coalition and if you go and sign the petition an email will bet sent to your Senators and Congressperson no matter where in the country you live. I signed the petition, as did 90,000 others so far, so keep them coming. The next day I received an email back from my Senator Al Franken, with his stance on the issue, so I decided to share with you his letter to me and my letter back to him.

At a press conference this morning, a number of business and interest groups announced the formation of a new coalition to oppose cap-and-trade public policy. The No Cap-and-Trade Coalition says it will kick-off its campaign with a new advertisement and website (NoCapAndTrade.com).

The website includes a petition that visitors can sign to express their opposition to the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill and the United Nation's proposed climate treaty expected to be debated in Copenhagen this December. The group is also bringing a localized educational program to areas of the state, featuring the new global warming documentary film, "Not Evil, Just Wrong."

55913.jpgIn another blow to those hoping a major conference in Copenhagen in December will deliver a global deal, China and India agreed Wednesday to work in unison, hardening their stance against accepting legally binding targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Despite their rivalry in other areas, the giant neighbors -- which together produce around a quarter of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other gases blamed for "global warming" -- pledged in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to coordinate their climate strategies over the next five years.

Sweden Turning Stray Rabbits Into Biofuel

Stray rabbits are getting a raw deal in Sweden. Thousands of them living in the center of Stockholm are being culled, deep frozen and converted into biofuel for heating homes. Wildlife campaigners have criticized the practice.

Thousands of rabbits, some of them pets abandoned by their owners, are being shot, deep-frozen and burned in a heating plant in Sweden, a professional hunter who works for the city of Stockholm said on Tuesday.

The center of the Swedish capital is being plagued by thousands of rabbits, some of them wild and some of them stray pets, and 3,000 have been culled this year, down from 6,000 in 2008, Tommy Tuvunger, who hunts rodents for the Stockholm city administration, told SPIEGEL ONLINE.

The ice melt across during the Antarctic summer (October-January) of 2008-2009 was the lowest ever recorded in the satellite history.

Such was the finding reported last week by Marco Tedesco and Andrew Monaghan in the journal Geophysical Research Letters:

A 30-year minimum Antarctic snowmelt record occurred during austral summer 2008-2009 according to spaceborne microwave observations for 1980-2009. Strong positive phases of both the El-Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Southern Hemisphere Annular Mode (SAM) were recorded during the months leading up to and including the 2008-2009 melt season.

Europeans Tend to Care More Strongly about Climate Change Than Americans

[Only 27% of the sampled Americans saw climate change as a "large threat"; only 21% of Americans say they are willing to pay more taxes to cut greenhouse gas emissions; only 20% of Americans supported additional aid to developing countries to help them deal with climate change; only 10% of Americans avoided patronising a business because of their environmental activities (or lack thereof)] ... These are some of the findings of a Financial Times/Harris Poll conducted online by Harris Interactive® among 6,463 adults aged less than 65 in France, Germany, Britain, Spain, Italy and the United States between September 30 and October 7, 2009.

[Poll details here. The US sample was people aged 16-64. Why was that age range chosen?]

Copenhagen is about to become the successor to Kyoto as the synonym for the U.N.'s plan to control climate change. The 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change will meet in Copenhagen December 7-18. Until this meeting ends, expect to hear a growing number of climate-related horror stories, presented by a wide array of so-called environmentalists, at a rising decibel level that's sure to drive the sane quite mad.

The UNFCCC was a voluntary treaty through which the United States agreed to voluntarily reduce carbon emissions in 1992. At the very first meeting of the COP in 1995, the delegates decided to add a "Protocol" to the treaty that would make specific emissions reduction targets set by the U.N. body legally binding on 34 developed nations. The U.S. Senate adopted a resolution instructing the Clinton administration to not participate in the Protocol unless it included all nations, or if it would have a negative impact on the U.S. economy.

There are now fewer than 50 days to set course of next 50 years and more, PM tells environment ministers from 17 countries responsible for 80% of greenhouse gas emissions

Gordon Brown today warned that the world is on the brink of a "catastrophic" future of killer heatwaves, floods and droughts unless governments speed up negotiations on climate change before vital talks in Copenhagen in December.

This applies to the US as much as anyone, he said, adding that "there is no plan B", and that agreement cannot be deferred beyond the UN-sponsored Copenhagen conference.

There are fears that Barack Obama does not have the political capital to reach a deal in Copenhagen and will instead use a visit to China next month to reach a bilateral deal that circumvents the UN.

On July 4, 1776, with the stroke of a pen, our Republic was founded when the Declaration of Independence was signed. On December 7, 2009, with another stroke of the pen, our Republic might come to end.

Lord Christopher Monckton recently spoke at an event put on by the Minnesota Free Market Institute, he SHREDDED the whole "Global Warming" theory, he was great! But it was his closing statement that shocked me.

When I started Minnesotan's For Global Warming, I knew the whole Global Warming theory was a joke. It was easy to make fun of the whole thing, especially with a cooling planet, and to portray Al Gore as a buffoon. Little did I realize that the "Global Warming" theory would be the excuse needed to set up a One World Communistic Government.

Obama to control your television; brainwashing will be "organically" woven into plots and storylines all next week

Government Propaganda To Infest Network TV Shows 151009top2

An insidious brainwashing program set to be launched next week will "organically" weave the government's political propaganda into prime time network television shows, with positive talking points about Obama's environmental, bailout, health care and "servitude" agenda being seamlessly integrated into the content of dramas, reality shows and comedies.

Under the auspices of a program run by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), network TV shows will be used to promote "service and volunteerism" on behalf of the public as part of a "week-long of television programming on all four leading broadcast networks - ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and all affiliated broadcast and cable properties as well, and other networks, beginning October 19."

Last night, climate skeptic Lord Christopher Monckton (pictured holding one of our shirts) spoke to an audience of over 700 at Bethel University in St. Paul. The event also featured the national premiere of a new documentary from the Cascade Policy Institute titled "Climate Chains." The event was an enormous success, thanks to the Minnesota Free Market Institute for putting on this great seminar.

The Free Market Institute is working to get the video of the event produced and posted as soon as possible (we will post it here also). For those interested, Monckton's slide show can be found here.

The Copenhagen treaty isn't just about cutting CO2 emissions through greater reliance on power sources such as wind. It's also openly about transferring billions to the developing world.

For a global gathering ostensibly designed to harness international ingenuity to arrest global warming, the United Nations Copenhagen Climate Conference at least has a fitting name. The website advertising UNCC seems to fit the bill, too, with the requisite photos of smokestacks, parched landscapes and natural disasters juxtaposed with wind turbines and adorable penguins.

All the more odd, then, that the draft treaty being proposed for the December meeting devotes roughly as much of its text to new foreign aid programs as it does to a plan to reduce greenhouse gases.

Ever notice how every year they put the Christmas stuff out earlier and earlier?
Maybe retailers know something that we don't know. It's only October 12th here in Minnesota and it looks like Christmas outside. It hasn't even reached peak fall colors yet, some trees are still green and there is 3 inches of show on the ground.

A noted geologist who coauthored the New York Times bestseller Sugar Busters has turned his attention to convincing Congress that carbon dioxide emissions
are good for Earth and don't cause global warming. Leighton Steward is on Capitol Hill this week armed with studies and his book Fire, Ice and Paradise in a bid to show senators working on the energy bill that the carbon dioxide cap-and-trade scheme could actually hurt the environment by reducing CO2 levels.

"I'm trying to kill the whole thing," he says. "We are tilting at windmills." He is meeting with several GOP lawmakers and has plans to meet with some Democrats later this week.

Planet cooling says scientist

Alan Nicholl, Gisborne Herald

Recently some new information has become available which seriously questions the whole UN's basis on climate change and its computer modelling work of future changes.

The week before the latest UN's world leaders' conference there was another UN climate conference in Geneva where one of the UN's own leading climate scientists and computer modellers, Professor Mojib Latif from Germany's Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences at Keil University, stated that from recent research he has conducted he has had to conclude that global warning has ceased.

He added that the planet is currently cooling and will likely continue to do so for another 20 years.

The infamous Hockey Stick Chart, although debunked by experts, keeps popping up like the "Whack-A-Gopher" game at the Minnesota State Fair. But hopefully now, armed with new information we can once and for all stick a fork that hockey stick.

Whack-A-Gopher.jpg

A month ago while attending the Minnesota State Fair, I went to the Eco-Experience building which was quite interesting. Of course they had a big beautiful display about Global Warming and its "Impact" on Minnesota. They were saying things like our winters would be milder and Lake Superior would be 2 degrees warmer. Have you ever tried swimming in Lake Superior even in July? If it were 2 degrees warmer it would take you 15 minutes to die from Hypothermia instead of just 13. Hence, the name of our group.

Democrats' environmental proposals are an attack on capitalism. That is a fact. But don't take my word for it. Ask John Kerry.

As often happens when disingenuous people let slip the truth, Kerry admitted in no uncertain terms the other day that he sees economic prosperity as the enemy of the environment, and left no mystery as to which side he takes.

Kerry and Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California) have proposed a new draft for a cap-and-trade bill with exceedingly stringent restrictions on carbon emissions. During a hearing on the bill , Kerry made the astounding statement that the recession has been the environment's best friend, and he couldn't be happier about it:

Let me emphasize something very strongly as we begin this discussion. The United States has already this year alone achieved a 6 percent reduction in emissions simply because of the downturn in the economy, so we are effectively saying we need to go another 14 percent.

Let your Senators know that you and 31,478 scientists don't believe in man-made global warming, and that passing Cap and Trade would "harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind".

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama is unlikely to sign climate legislation ahead of a U.N. global warming meeting in Copenhagen that starts in early December, the White House's top climate and energy coordinator said on Friday.

"We'd like to be (finished with) the process. That's not going to happen," Carol Browner said at a conference called the First Draft of History.

Democratic Senators John Kerry and Barbara Boxer unveiled a climate bill this week but it remained unclear whether it would win the required 60 Senate votes for passage.

When is global warming not global warming or climate change not climate change? The unveiling of the United States Senate's cap and trade legislation yesterday shows a concerted effort to appeal to the public through the use of terms that might be considered more appealing, even if not accurate.

With great fanfare yesterday, Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA) unveiled the "Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act of 2009." This is the Senate's version of cap and trade legislation purportedly aimed at stemming the effects of manmade climate change. Earlier this summer, the House of Representatives passed its version which it termed "The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009."
