President elect sets out on agenda to revive frightening Lieberman/Warner legislation

President elect Barack Obama used his speech at a Los Angeles summit last night to reinvigorate a push for the revival of a frightening proposal to slash carbon emissions by 80 per cent, a move that would inflict a new Great Depression, cost millions of jobs, and sink America to near third world status.

“My presidency will mark a new chapter in America’s leadership on climate change,” Obama said in a video message to governors and others attending a Los Angeles summit on the issue.

“In the roughly four-minute message, Obama reiterated his support for a cap-and-trade system approach to cutting green house gases. He would establish annual targets to reduce emissions to their 1990 levels by 2020 and reduce them another 80 percent by 2050,” reports the Associated Press.

Obama’s mission is to revive and expand the defeated 2007 Lieberman/Warner bill, “America’s Climate Security Act,” which proposed a cap and trade system to reduce carbon emissions 70 per cent by 2050.

Pandora's Light Bulb

In 2012 the incandescent light bulb will be banned, and I for one will be lost.

Here in Minnesota we need the extra heat that incandescent light bulbs release. I put 150 watt heat lamps in the chicken coop to keep the chickens warm, I have a 75 watt bulb under the horse waterer to keep it from freezing. I use four 75 watt recessed spot lights in my dining room which acts like a poor man's in-floor heat for my bedroom which is right above. In fact any extra heat these things generate for 9 months out of the year is greatly appreciated.

And what about decorative bulbs? Picture your chandelier with little pigtail lights in it, its going to look like something out of a Tim Burton movie.

So for the next 4 years I plan on stocking up on incandescent light bulbs or ILBs. Every time I have a few extra bucks, which isn't very often in these tough economic times, I am going to buy ILBs. I figure I can stock up a 10 year supply pretty easily. I might get a few extra of the heat lamps to sell to fellow chicken farmers.

I think we should all do this, like a reverse Boston Tea Party. Just think if for the next four years Wal-Mart couldn't keep ILBs on the shelf, then in 2012 when the change happens, nobody buys the Mercury Laden Pigtails or MLPs for 10 years. This would send a strong signal to Washington, that in America the market can't be controlled by government and that we are still somewhat free.

I think the ban on ILBs has nothing to do with Global Warming anyway but rather is a test to see how much government intrusion the American people will put up with. So in defiance we should all hold a light bulb high in the air and quote the late great Charlton Heston and say "FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!"

Chasing Windmills

With the new administration wanting the U.S. to get off of oil by 2015 and coal by 2050, we are going to have to start making energy in other ways, one of those ways is wind generators. At first you might think what can be more environmentally friendly than a windmill right? Well now with millions of these things needed to even get close to what are needs are, we are running into all kinds of environmental, health and aesthetic issues.

Now that Obama is our new fearless leader, everything is going to be just fine. There will be no more war, we'll have Government Health Care, all our mortgages will be forgiven. It will all be just Rainbows and Butterflies. And now we can finally address Global Warming, we aren't going to need anymore coal fired power plants and we will totally be off gasoline by 2015. How are we going to do this you ask? Well we're all going to run our cars on happy butterfly pee, that's how.

The Scariest Chart Of All Time!

While surfing across the internets the other day I came across a Special Report on the New Scientist website entitled "How our economy is killing the Earth" accompanying this article was the scariest chart on Global Warming I had ever seen.

This chart was a compilation of all the atrocities man has done to the earth since the founding of this country. Things like the dreaded Paper Use, Water Consumption, and Fisheries Exploited whatever that means. And all these graphs are shooting up on the right side of the chart like rockets, especially after 1950 (those blasted 50's).

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act

Alan Greenspan former chairman of the US Federal Reserve Board, a position touted as one of the most powerful unelected offices in the world, in a hearing before Rep. Henry Waxman’s House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said he got it wrong in answer to questions about his role in the recent financial meltdown. His extremely mobile face deadpanned that his economic models, which he had relied on for 40 years, were wrong. He did not apologize; it was merely a statement of fact that portrayed no irrational exuberance. He gave no hint of concern about the massive damage his reliance on the models had done. Huge losses of money among those who exploited the situation his models allowed, garnered no sympathy. However, the dashing of hope at the bottom of the economic pyramid, the disaster of losing one’s home or job, the stress created by worrying about losing either, and a myriad other such stories in the US and across the world appeared to be dismissed with a wave of the academic and intellectual hand.

Last month I witnessed something shocking. Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, was giving a talk at the University of NSW. The talk was accompanied by a slide presentation, and the most important graph showed average global temperatures. For the past decade it represented temperatures climbing sharply.

As this was shown on the screen, Pachauri told his large audience: "We're at a stage where warming is taking place at a much faster rate [than before]".

Now, this is completely wrong. For most of the past seven years, those temperatures have actually been on a plateau. For the past year, there's been a sharp cooling. These are facts, not opinion: the major sources of these figures, such as the Hadley Centre in Britain, agree on what has happened, and you can check for yourself by going to their websites. Sure, interpretations of the significance of this halt in global warming vary greatly, but the facts are clear.

U.S. environmental groups see Barack Obama’s presidential victory as a chance to undo the Bush legacy on global warming, and one idea they are discussing is the possibility of a White House “climate czar”.

Members of the environmental community in and around Washington say such a post could oversee various government agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Interior Department, to focus on tackling global warming and fostering clean energy to jump-start the flagging economy.

“For the first time, candidates and voters are really connecting the dots between energy, the environment and the economy,” said Cathy Duvall, Sierra Club’s political director. She said at a news briefing that Obama had made it clear that investing in cleaner energy would be a top priority in his plan for economic recovery.

One way to coordinate these interrelated issues would be to have one person in charge, based at the White House, according to sources in the environmental community familiar with the idea.

McCain, Palin attack Democrat over threat to 'bankrupt' industry

Sen. John McCain's Republican campaign is looking to capitalize on an interview in which Sen. Barack Obama proposed placing such heavy government fees on coal plants that the industry would either have to clean its emissions or go "bankrupt."

"If somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can," Obama said in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle. "It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

Publicity over the plan to use "carbon credits" to force the coal industry to either clean up its emissions or get out of business comes on the heels of news that Obama plans to use "price signals" to control America's energy use, and Republicans have pounced on Obama's words with an aggressive campaign in the coal-rich battleground states of Ohio and Pennsylvania.

ABC News reports a robocall being made to voters that focuses on Obama's "bankrupt" comment.

"I'm calling on behalf of John McCain and the RNC to tell you that coal jobs, which are so important to our community are in jeopardy," says the call. "Listen to Barack Obama's plans to bankrupt the coal industry." The call then plays audio of Obama's words, quoted above.

An audio clip of Obama's comments, compiled by Naked Emperor News and widely circulated on YouTube and NewsBusters.com, can be heard below.
